Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I absolutely love all sorts of music (specifically K-pop), travel, and writing about anything I spontaneously become interested in. I hope you love it here as much as I do!

Is Flyana Boss's "You Wish" the Young Rap/Pop Voice We’ve Been Waiting for?

Is Flyana Boss's "You Wish" the Young Rap/Pop Voice We’ve Been Waiting for?

Flyana Boss released “You Wish” on June 16 after much anticipation from their half a million followers on TikTok and many many more with their videos reaching up to 13.4 million. “You Wish” is a divine feminine energy song about being an it girl and owning it to the fullest. While the mass attention is new to the two girls, creating amazing music certainly is not.

The duo is made up of Bobbi Lanea and Folayan Kunerede who are not only creating infectious and anthem-like music, but they are educated on what they are creating. They both attended a music college in Los Angeles, CA, where they met and started this destined collaboration. Their first single on Spotify, “Bossi,” was released on October 14, 2019 which has accumulated 275,741 streams. “You Wish” has reached over 3.5 million already.

Flyana Boss got the attention of 1.7 million viewers on TikTok on May 23 with a running video to their song “You Wish” to promote its release. They have now created a highly anticipated thread of videos all circulating around their new song and running to it at different locations: on the subway, Santa Monica Pier, and even DisneyLand. These youthful and high energy videos and lyrics have even attracted celebrities like Lil Nas X commenting, “I know that’s right.”

For this release, “You Wish” is partnered with their more vocal song, “Trashboi.” It tells the story of a girl in a relationship finding out that like every other one, “that boy is trash.” It shows that Flyana Boss is not only capable of writing insane lyrics to raps, but can write for vocals too while also telling an all too relatable story. They’re an all-rounder duo.

“You Wish” is all about self confidence, exuding the inner power that we all have, and having fun, all the while with your best friend. This isn’t their first song to have a strong message like this though. Their song “Really Really” is about setting boundaries in relationships and putting self-love first. Another song called “Miss Me” expresses their wants and absolutely-nots in relationships. While similar to “You Wish,” their song “Nu Nu” is about individuality and being that girl because they’re always upgrading and never settling. They know their stuff.

Flyana Boss have a stacked discography of 18 amazing songs for viewers to enjoy and memorize while waiting for their next track to drop, and with how talented and quick witted these girls are, I’m not sure it will take too long. After creating a following on social media to attract listeners to their music with “You Wish,” they are finally getting the recognition they deserve for the incredible talent that they possess. But they don’t need me to tell them that. (Listen to “Really Really” again. They know, as they should.)

Have you tuned into Flyana Boss? What do you think of their vibe?
